Zach

Zach is the founder and owner of Purest Canines. After running multiple businesses, he set out to find a personal protection dog, and ended up finding a calling. Through hours of research he brought home a European Doberman named Raksha, and the work of training her opened a door that wouldn't close.

He liquidated his businesses to train dogs full-time. Today, his focus is everyday dogs and the families that love them, turning energetic, untrained, or anxious dogs into the calm, confident companions families actually wanted. He still competes in protection sports as a handler and decoy, but the bulk of his calendar is household training: leash manners, puppy raising, behavior cases, and dogs that can finally come along to the family BBQ.

Raksha has earned PSA credentials and all three AKC Canine Good Citizen titles, and is a regular fixture around the facility.

Kyana

Kyana has been around animals her whole life. Her path into professional training started with a rescue Pitbull whose behavioral issues didn't have easy answers, figuring them out lit a fire that hasn't gone out since.

The bulk of Kyana's day-to-day is everyday family dog work: calm leash manners, polite house behavior, puppy foundations done right from week one, and the reactive or anxious rescues that need patient, structured help. The dogs that join the family come home calmer, more confident, and easier to live with, the kind of dog you can take to the park, the brewery patio, or in-laws' house without spending the whole visit managing them.

She's a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, owns four rescue dogs, has earned multiple AKC titles, and trained and handled her own personal service dog. With her rescue Belgian Malinois, Ryker, Kyana became the first shelter-dog team in history to earn PSA 3, the sport's highest title. She is currently a PSA apprentice judge and is competing with a young up-and-coming dog.

Kyana runs the Purest Canines Fredericksburg location, bringing the same standard to families in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and the surrounding area. She's one of a small number of female handlers to reach the top of protection sport, and her philosophy carries into every household program she runs: develop dog and handler to their highest potential, without losing who they are.

Devin

Devin's connection to dogs started early, and he's been drawn to canine cognition and communication ever since. He brings a calm, structured approach to relationship-based training and has a particular knack for bully breeds and high-drive rescues.

The bulk of Devin's work is everyday family dogs, puppy raising, leash manners, household behavior, the doodle who jumps on every guest, the rescue who can't settle on the couch. He works with all breeds and backgrounds, and his focus is the kind of calm, well-mannered dog you actually wanted when you brought yours home.

Alongside Kyana, Devin runs the Purest Canines Fredericksburg location, serving Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and the surrounding region. On the sport side, he's developing bitework decoy skills and training his female bully, Maze, in PSA. The thread that runs through all of it: clear communication, confidence-building, and results that last well past the end of a formal program.

Our Method

Balanced. Relationship-driven. Tailored to the dog in front of us.

No two dogs walk through our door the same way. Our approach starts with understanding the individual, temperament, drive, baggage, the household they live in, and building a plan from there. We reward what we want, fairly address what we don't, and proof everything in the real world so it sticks at home.

  • Customized to your dog. Every program, from puppy raise to behavior mod, is scoped to the actual problem, not a packaged solution.
  • Real-world proofing. We train in parking lots, parks, stores, and around real distractions, not just in a sterile facility.
  • Weekly video and photo updates. Board & train clients know exactly how their dog is progressing, every week.
  • The owner is part of the work. Go-home lessons and follow-ups so the calm, well-mannered dog you pick up stays that way.
  • Same hands, start to finish. The trainer who answers your call is the trainer who runs your dog through the program.
